Attributes and Applications
The global Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) market is anticipated to rise at a considerable rate during the forecast period, between 2021 and 2029&was estimated at $8.97 billion in 2019 and is slated to exceed $10.19 billion by 2026, registering a CAGR of 4.2% from 2020 to 2026. It is an organic compound  & significant intermediate produced by acetoxylation of ethylene in the presence of alumina or silica-supported palladium catalyst. VAM is also produced on a large scale for the production of Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVOH) which is consumed in adhesives, textiles; packaging films etc. Around 80% of VAM is used for the production of PVA and PVOH. Other applications include in the production of a wide range of resins and polymers for paints & coatings, sealants, elastomers and a myriad of other industrial and consumer applications.Growing demand for EVOH films in the food manufacturing industry is likely to spur the growth of vinyl acetate monomer over the forecast period.
 
Current Europe Situation
VAM supplies remained tight throughout the quarter, as maintenance shutdowns were scheduled at various facilities across the region. VAM supplies in the European region were improved compared to the previous quarter owing ease in shipments from the USA as the industrial infrastructure in the US Gulf Coast (USGC) region restarted. Whereas the Asian cargoes were delayed due to the Suez Canal blockage in April starting. Market sentiments were bolstered as traders replenished the inventories which caused the slowdown in recovery pace of VAM supplies to the European market. Demand observed a seasonal hype from the construction sectors with better offtakes from the adhesives industries. 
 
Handling and Storage
Use and maintain proper inhibitor levels and keep free of contamination .  Inhibitors are consumed over time.Avoid absorption of moisture which can cause hydrolysis of VAM.Prevent contact with amines, strong acids, alkalis, silica, alumina, oxidizing agents and initiators which can cause spontaneous polymerization.Avoid exposure to air which can result in the formation of peroxides. Store VAM within recommended temperature limits, not exceeding 30 °C (86 °F).Use proper MOCs and keep tanks, reactors and piping, etc. thoroughly clean.
